The Week In Sports 2/24
Welcome to The Week In Sports. There was enough ammo this week that I felt it was time to get back up on the horse. Let’s begin.
In a bit of somber news, Jim Boeheim was driving a vehicle that hit and killed a pedestrian who got out of his vehicle late on Wednesday night. Condolences to the Jimenez family as well as the Boeheim family for all that they’re going through. Boeheim reportedly went to meet with the Jimenez family and apologize man-to-man, but ended up apologizing in a 2-3 zone.
Unfortunately, Boeheim wasn’t the only person in basketball involved in an accident this week - Timberwolves center Karl-Anythony Towns was involved in a wreck on Thursday. The situation led to some confusion around the T-Wolves’ facility because when someone refers to “The Accident” around there, they’re usually referring to Andrew Wiggins’ contract.
In some news that initially seemed much worse than it was - Zion Williamson, wearing a pair of Paul George’s sneakers, busted through his shoe and hurt his knee against UNC. The blowout was a devastating and surprising development for Nike, as PGs usually don’t crumble unless Joe Ingles is around.
Before we continue, it would be irresponsible of me to not address the elephant in the steam room. Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, was arrested in Jupiter, Florida this week in a sting operation regarding the solicitation of prostitution at a massage parlor. There’s sex trafficking and some pretty dark stuff involved here, so I’ll abstain from making jokes. My only comment: Who knew that Drops of Jupiter was such a literal song?
People are suspicious of tampering after it was announced this week that Anthony Davis will appear on the next episode of LeBron’s HBO show, The Shop. This was all a big misunderstanding - Davis isn’t there to discuss free agency, he’s there for a transplant.
Speaking of LeBron, his team made headlines this week when they announced the release date for Space Jam 2 as July 16, 2021 - more than 2 years in advance. The crazy coincidence is that July 16, 2021 is also the date that Bryce Harper is expected to make his free agency decision.
The Rockets lost a heart-breaker to the Lakers this week in a game officiated by longtime thorn in their side, Scott Foster. James Harden fouled out and Chris Paul got a technical, and the two were vocal after the game about all of Foster’s missed calls. Harden and Paul’s frustration is justified, as they’re used to spending time with someone who never misses their calls.
Tristan Thompson was in the news this week after allegedly cheating on the mother of his child with Kylie Jenner’s best friend, Jordyn Woods. Thompson should’ve known better on this one, he’s already seen how bleak things get when you make a Jordan a second option.
Pitchers across the MLB are furious this week as the league has proposed enforcing a 20 second pitch clock in regular season games. If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it’s because 20 Seconds or Less is also the name of a massage parlor in Jupiter, Florida.
Have a great week, everyone.
