The Week in Sports 7/9

Luke Walton is said to be meeting with Tyronne Lue this week to get some advice on how to coach LeBron James. Up next on Walton’s calendar is a lesson on modern movie watching taught by Blockbuster’s CEO.

LeBron is leaving Cleveland and heading to the Lakers. No one is more upset than people who can’t stand their families, as the annual Cavs/Warriors Christmas Day matchup is no longer an excuse to ignore their relatives for two and a half hours.

In one of the strangest moves of the offseason, Dwight Howard is headed to the nation’s capital. Personally, I’m really happy to see Dwight’s career come full circle, going from a rookie Magician to a veteran Wizard.

The Indiana Pacers, a typically white, conservative franchise, made a progressive move this week by signing a black guy named Tyreke. As a fan, I was happy to see the team make a move that didn't feel so Midwestern. My optimism abruptly came to an end when they went out and paid $22 million to a guy named Doug McDermott.

Starbucks announced their intent to get rid of all plastic straws by the year 2020. The move is fully supported by Hornets GM Mitch Kupchak, who is also trying to get rid of something that sucks by 2020.

The MLB All Star Game is coming up next week, and the rosters were announced on Sunday. Rays pitcher Chris Archer has been outspoken after his teammate, Blake Snell, was left off the AL team. Little does Archer know, a Snell being left off the All Star team isn’t a problem unique to the MLB.

A cool twist to the All Star rosters is that Jose Abreu, Jose Altuve, and Jose Ramirez were named the starters at first, second and third base respectively. Aboott and Costello have already been receiving backlash for their new, racially insensitive sketch: Jose on First?

It’s now time for the one soccer joke of the year:

France and Belgium will be facing off this week in a World Cup Semifinal. The real winner? Minimalist graphic design.
